TCM Pattern of wet type rebellious Lung Qi:
- Symptoms of a wet sounding cough
- May occasionally spit up white frothy fluids
- Pet's appetite is poor
- There may be fatigue
- You may notice watery stools
- Runny eyes
- Nasal dripping
Phlegm Damp Cough Etiology:
This pattern is due to Spleen Yang vacuity. The Spleen is the center for the transformation of water and food. When yang, the functional warming mechanism, is damaged, then dampness within the Spleen occurs.
When the Spleen is unable to perform its' transformation function then damp fluids will accumulate. There is a Traditional Chinese Herbal saying that says:
"The Spleen is the maker of Phlegm and the Lungs are the holder of the Phlegm"
In other words what your pet eats can be the root cause of Rebellious Lung Qi. A Phlegm-Damp type of disharmony most of the time is a result of an inappropriate diet of foods such as rice, wheat, barley, oats and poor quality processed food.
Phlegm-Damp patterns may also be caused by a constitutionally weak digestive system.
Many dogs develop a wet type cough as a result multiple courses of antibiotics that are are considered to be very bitter and cold and any long term usage of them damages the Yang Qi.(Humans too).
The idea of this formula is to dry up all the digestive phlegm. We do this by by using warm and drying herbs. Once this digestive damp/phlegm is dried and the spleen is supplemented, the Lung system will also clear.
Making sure your dog is eating the right food is very important.
