    Tummy and Intestine Disharmony Pattern
This is a condition of both hot and cold stagnation in the middle burner (stomach). It is a pattern of stomach deficiency from a cold pattern. The idea here is the stomach does not properly move the food and water, which causes a transition to also include the pattern of stomach heat.

Let's use a metaphors to understand the Chinese herbal theory with respect to this pattern. Think of a puddle of water after a rain storm. The water is at first clean, clear and pure. However, after the sun  shines into the puddle, the water becomes hotter, murky and very dirty. This is the heat aspect of the pattern. Here is another example. Think of  a compost pile.  As it sits there, it becomes warmer, and as it sits there longer, it begins to smell and the contents of the pile become mushy, smelly and rancid. This is another example of Heat Accumulation.

Bottom line, Cold Accumulation stagnates and transforms into Heat. Thus, this formula works to address Stomach Cold and clear the subsequent Stomach Heat.

How does a Cold-Heat Middle Burner complex manifest? Because of the stomach stagnation, expect that there might be pain right under the rib cage. Mostly it will be noticed while lifting the pet. Chinese herbal theory states "Where there is stagnation there will be pain."  Next,  you may hear very loud tummy noises, they are called borborygmus and they are very easy to hear. Next, because the digestive mechanism  has been disrupted, Stomach Qi cannot descend, and then it may rebel (vomiting), and because the clear Yang can not rise, there may be loose stools or diarrhea..

A summary of this pattern is rooted in the obstruction of the ascending and descending function of the digestive system.  In easy terms, the digestive system is going in opposite directions.
